On September 23-24, 2024, the InterPED project actively participated in the CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency Cluster Meeting on Positive Energy Neighbourhoods and Districts. The event, held in Brussels, brought together key stakeholders, experts, and project teams working on energy transition and urban sustainability. It served as a vital platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and discussions on the future of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs).
Represented by our partners R2M and Level 9, InterPED contributed to sessions focused on energy systems integration, interoperability, and strategies to enable and scale Positive Energy Districts. Our team engaged in fruitful discussions with other EU projects and stakeholders, exchanging ideas and lessons learned from ongoing and completed initiatives.
Key Takeaways from the Event:
- Innovative Solutions & Research Needs: The event highlighted future research needs for PEDs, particularly in areas such as interoperability, sector coupling, social engagement tools, and regulatory frameworks. Discussions around these topics are crucial for accelerating the development and deployment of PEDs across Europe.
- Knowledge Exchange: InterPED joined other EU projects in reflecting on lessons learned from past initiatives. The exchange of knowledge, particularly on business models and effective stakeholder engagement, was invaluable to all participants.
- Cross-Project Collaboration: Collaboration between projects was emphasized as a key driver in addressing common challenges like energy transition and decarbonization. The cluster meeting demonstrated the importance of working together to tackle complex issues and leverage synergies across projects.
InterPED’s Role in the Discussions:
During the event, InterPED shared insights on its innovative approach to creating and scaling PEDs. Our project focuses on integrating renewable energy, storage, and excess heat while promoting sector coupling and demand flexibility. By presenting these innovative solutions, InterPED contributed to the broader dialogue on how to achieve sustainable, energy-efficient urban environments in Europe.
As part of our commitment to advancing Positive Energy Districts, InterPED will continue to engage in these collaborative platforms, sharing its progress and solutions with a wider audience.
