From 26 to 30 May 2025, the InterPED project was represented at the 37th CIGRE Serbia Conference, held in Kopaonik. Organised by the Serbian National Committee of CIGRE, the conference is one of the most important professional gatherings in the field of power engineering in the region, bringing together industry leaders, researchers, utilities, and academic institutions.
This year’s edition focused on emerging technologies and the challenges of the energy transition, reflecting the profound changes currently shaping power system operation, planning, and governance across Europe and beyond.
A Forum for Knowledge Exchange and Technical Debate
Over five days, participants engaged in an intensive programme featuring more than 170 scientific, research, and professional papers, eight thematic panels, and the CIGRE Serbia EXPO 2025 technical exhibition. The conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions on system stability, renewable integration, digitalisation, and resilience of modern power systems under increasingly complex operating conditions.
Showcasing InterPED in a Power Engineering Context
Within this high-level technical environment, IMP used the opportunity to communicate and promote InterPED’s results, positioning the project within ongoing discussions on system integration, flexibility, and the role of digital tools in managing complex energy systems.

InterPED’s approach, focused on interoperable, district-level energy management and cross-vector coordination, resonated strongly with conference themes addressing the future operation of power systems. Discussions with participants highlighted the relevance of Positive Energy Districts as a complementary layer to traditional grid planning, particularly in contexts where decentralised generation, flexibility, and active consumers are becoming central to system stability. As highlighted by Aleksandar Car, Deputy Director of IMP-Automatika and member of a CIGRE Study Committee, participation in such events is essential at a time when the energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation. The conference provided valuable space for open dialogue, exchange of ideas, and presentation of innovations contributing to more resilient and sustainable energy systems.
Strengthening Links Between Research, Industry, and Practice
Alongside the conference programme, the technical exhibition brought together equipment manufacturers, utilities, consultants, and research organisations from Serbia and abroad. The exhibition enabled new professional connections and offered further opportunities to discuss how research and innovation projects, such as InterPED, can support real-world implementation of advanced energy management solutions.Participation in CIGRE Serbia 2025 reinforced InterPED’s engagement with the power engineering and system operation community, ensuring that project developments remain connected to evolving industry needs and technical realities.
